How Oxalic Acid is Produced
Oxalic acid is commonly produced through oxidation processes using raw materials such as glycolic acid, ethylene glycol, propylene, and carbohydrates. In the conventional method, these precursors are reacted with nitric acid under controlled heating conditions to form oxalic acid. The product is then recovered and concentrated through separation techniques such as distillation. Due to efficiency limitations of this route, alternative methods like oxidative carbonylation of alcohols have been developed, offering higher yields and improved suitability for large-scale industrial production.
